Eating and drinking is central to the Crown Inn, providing locally sourced food of fantastic quality, served simply. Please be aware this seasonal produce from handpicked suppliers dictate the constantly changing menus.

We would like to welcome David Hawkins, previously Head Chef at The White Oak in Cookham where he was nominated in the top 30 new Gastro pubs 2010, and the Michelin red guide 2010 and 2011, as The Crown’s new Head Chef. Cooking similarly simple, local, honest food, David’s style of cooking is perfectly suited to the The Crown’s Chop House philosophy.

Did you enjoy your meal? The Good Food Guide is compiled using feedback from members of the public throughout the year, and it's this list of recommendations that creates the longlist for possible inclusion. If you have the time and enjoyed your meal, please fill out the following online form:

Eating at The Crown Chop House
The Crown’s restaurant is now serving a Chop House style menu – a style of eating which once existed in most coaching inns around Britain. An institution dating back to the 16th Century, The British chop house is classed as the first restaurant in the format we are used to, servicing the English gent with grilled meats, oysters and condiments. The Crown Chop House menu is made up of two breeds of beef of various cuts, British Classics such as pies and sausage and mash, and seasonal salads. Specialising in grilled meats, The Crown Chop House uses a Josper Oven - a charcoal oven which came to existence by trying to contain the fumes from an open charcoal barbecue. The result was an enclosed barbeque which also acted as an oven – perfect for roasting and barbecuing and producing stunning flavours and aromas.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner while the bar serves food daily from 10am to 10pm. For weekdays only, feast on a special 2 course lunch for £12 per head. Our 'back room' overlooking the cobbled courtyard can accommodate up to 40 and be hired for private gatherings and feastings. Crown visitors can enjoy home roasted spiced nuts or cheese straws at the bar with a pint of the local Rebellion ale, organic ginger beer and traditional lemondae or an elderflower fizz.
